- Turkey Trot – This year’s Turkey Trot will take place on St. Stephens day starting at 1.30pm. Sponsorship cards are in circulation in the parish. Proceeds this year are going to the 3 main clubs, St. Brendan’s GAA, Ballygar Hurling Club, St. Brendan’s LGFA. Let’s get walking and make this the biggest Turkey Trot in the World!!!
- Fundraising Table Quiz – A special fundraising Table Quiz will be held in Mc Donagh’s Lounge, Castleblakney on Friday December 29th at 8 30 pm in aid of The Sebeta School for the Blind in Ethiopia. The event organised by Aidan Mc Donnell who will be one of the Volunteers travelling to complete the work in 2024 will have many prizes and a raffle. Donations are also welcome for this great project.

- St Mary’s Church Choir Carols by Candlelight -In aid of St Vincent de Paul, the choir of St Mary’s Church Ballygar will host their annual carols by candlelight service on Sunday, December 17th at 8:00pm in the church. All are welcome to attend.
- Ballygar NS are delighted to invite you all to our Christmas Market and Carol Service this Tuesday 19th December. The Carol Service will be held in St. Mary’s Church, Ballygar at 6.30pm followed by our Christmas Markets in the Courthouse, Ballygar at approximately 8pm. The children of Ballygar NS have been very busy making some wonderfully handcrafted gifts and decorations to sell on the night. This is our first Christmas Market – with your support we hope it will be a great success. There will be lots of beautiful crafts for sale, some of which can be seen on our Facebook page. We will also be holding a raffle on the night with some exciting prizes. We wish to sincerely thank the following for their generous contributions: Ballygar Pharmacy, Bees Knees, Keane Electrical and Ventilation, Centra Ballygar, Crafy Art, Cleansave Products and Glanmore Foods. We also have a wonderful prize donated by Riverview Boarding Kennels for a two-night stay and a grooming voucher. All are most welcome on the night. - Saint Vincent De Paul Local Annual Appeal – Our local Conference is based at the Pastoral Centre Mountbellew, and we serve the surrounding parishes, including Ballygar/Newbridge/Toghergar. We wish to acknowledge the very generous support we have had from your Parish over the years. This year people’s needs are going to be greater than ever, considering the continued price increase in fuel, food and electricity alone. We will not be having a Church gate collection this year, but instead we will have Postage Free Envelopes left in the Church porch where people can put their donations, and post them to our Office. You may also leave the Envelopes in the Offertory collection basket. To facilitate people who wish to donate Online we have a Poster in the Church porch also, giving details of our designated Fundraise Web Address. All donations given locally will be used locally. - St. Jerome once said, “Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ”. In order to increase our knowledge of Christ through Scripture, the diocese is organizing a 6-week course on the Gospel of Mark, which is the gospel for the next liturgical year. It is not an academic course but will only help us understand the gospel at a spiritual level. The course begins on 25th November at 7:30pm in the courthouse. - Ballygar Truckin’ is Celebrating 10 Years and following on from the huge support we received for last year’s event, raising €30,000 for BNT Le Chéile and Friends of Oncology, Ballinasloe, we are delighted that this year’s fun filled event has been extended to 3 Days over the October Bank Holiday Weekend, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th October, in Ballygar.We will be hosting a Truck & Tractor Run, Monster Auction, Vintage Display, with Bingo Loco, Declan Nerney, and Paul Kelly all live in the Mattie McDonagh Centre and there will be many more family fun activities happening throughout the weekend. This year, we have chosen to fundraise for: BNT Le Chéile and Roscommon Hospice. It is Ballygar Truckin’s aim to help raise vital funds to help both causes to continue the real and necessary care and support they provide to members of our community. - Congratulations to all. A fantastic result in the Tidy Towns Competition for Ballygar with big jump of 16 points to a total of 345. Ballygar is now 4th in Category B in County Galway, with 19 towns/villages in this category in total. We had the 3rd highest increase in points in Co. Galway. It is fantastic that the work done over the last number of years has brought our points from 215 to 345 which is brilliant. Thank You and well done to the entire community. A massive thank you to the Tidy Towns volunteers who are out every week throughout the year and are involved in so much, there generosity is absolutely fantastic. Thanks also to the students of Coláiste Mhuire and Ballygar National School who get involved in so many of the tidy town projects and encourage our work. Thanks to the local Community Employment Scheme workers, TUS workers, Graveyard sub-committee, the Playground committee, the Men’s Shed Group, Galway County Council, Sunflower Montessori, Stepping Stones Play School, the local sports clubs, and all local voluntary organisations. Thanks to Pat, Frank Sarah and Joey at the Garda Station. A special thank you to all the residents and business owners who are working hard in maintaining their premises. Again Thank You all. - St. Jerome once said, “Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ”. In order to increase our knowledge of Christ through Scripture, the diocese is organizing a 6-week course on the Gospel of Mark, which is the gospel for the next liturgical year. It is not an academic course but will only help us understand the gospel at a spiritual level. The course begins on 25th November at 7:30pm in the courthouse. SafeTALK ‘suicide alertness for everyone’ prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and helps to recognise and engage with them before connecting them to suicide first aid resources. Participants learn how to provide practical help by using the steps of TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keepsafe) and also gain information on the supports and resources available locally, regionally and nationally. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the persons learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their community. This training is suitable for anyone over the age of 18, open to all in the community and free of charge. It’s not an easy topic but if we take the step to educate ourselves we might be able to make the difference in the lives of our family, friends, relatives. neighbors, teammates, colleagues, students, employees and our community. Booking is essential as places are limited!

- VINTAGE TRACTOR RUN – Mountbellew Vintage Club are organising a Tractor Run (VINTAGE TRACTORS ONLY) on Sunday October 15th. The Tractor Run is to raise funds for a number of people who are currently suffering with Parkinson’s disease. The Tractor Run will start from Ward’s of Ballyfa at 11 am.
