  • ELPHIN DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES – ASSISTED PILGRIM SECTION – The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 23rd August 2023 to the 28th August, 2023 inclusive, under the leadership of Bishop Kevin Doran. Pilgrimage Highlights includes Mass at the Grotto, Torchlight and Blessed Sacrament Processions, Anointing of the Sick, Water Ceremony.  Flights ex Knock Airport.  The Pilgrimage includes the Assisted Pilgrim Section.  Those who travel as part of the Assisted Pilgrim Section will stay in Accueil Notre Dame, which is situated near the Grotto and Sanctuary area.  They will be cared for by the Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage Care Team whilst in Lourdes.  Application forms for the Assisted Pilgrim Section and full details are available from Very Rev. Ray Milton, P.P., Pilgrimage Director, St. John’s, Lecarrow, Co.   • Novena for Life – the Pray for Life Novena is an invitation to join thousands of people across Ireland to pray for the protection of human life, from Tuesday 23rd May to the Feast of the Visitation on Wednesday 31st May. Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short reflection and suggested actions to help build a culture of life in Ireland.   • The Annual Walk of Remembrance to reflect on the victims of An Gorta Mór will take place on Sunday May 21st starting in The Square Mountbellew at 6:30 pm and ending at the site of the Workhouse (Colaiste an Chreagain).   All are invited to take part in the walk to remember family and neighbours who suffered during those dark times.  This year we will have special guests from Australia whose ancestors were evicted in 1846 from their homes in Ballinlass.   • Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes – Youth Section Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 23rd August 2023 to the 28th August, 2023.  Nominations from parishes throughout the Diocese are being sought for young people to participate in the Youth Section. Nominees aged between 17 and 20 are welcome to participate.  Nominees must be 17 years or over on the 22nd August, 2023.  Forms are available from the local parish office.  All nominees will be representing their parish and expected to participate fully in the Pilgrimage Itinerary.  Full details are included on the Nomination Form.  Closing date for receipt of completed nominations is the 14th May, 2023.
  • Knock Shrine Youth VolunteersVAKS stands for Volunteer at Knock Shrine and is for young people in TY, 5th year, and Leaving Cert that runs over July and August. VAKS gives young people an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, to learn more about their faith, to meet new people, gain new skills, and of course, to have fun. We do this, simply put, by assisting the pilgrim. Our VAKS join us from about 5:30pm on a Friday and stay here with the Youth Ministry team until around 6pm on Sunday. We volunteer together, we eat together, we hangout as a group in the evenings watching movies and playing games. We have accommodation here for our VAKS and provide all meals and snacks.   • Our Lady of Fatama Feast Day 13th May – Public Rosary Rally, Ballygar Church Car park at 4pm.  We encourage you all to join us this is one of over 500 such Rosary Rallies across the country.
  • Killyan Graveyard Committee – We have the benefit of the 50/50 Draw for the month of May. We would really appreciate your support in purchasing 50/50 tickets over those four weekends.  Alternatively, a yearly subscription with the opportunity to win every weekend is also available.  (Contact Jack Lohan 087-061-7168, Carmel Gavin 086 839-9651 or Sean Doyle -087-768-8666).  We will have our annual Mass in August and – in anticipation of the usual huge crowds who attend – your support will enable the hiring of a professional sound system, marquee and managing insurance costs for that most important event as well as helping to keep our Graveyards looking their best and a fitting place of rest for our departed loved ones.   • BNT Le Chéile Benevolent Fundexists to provide assistance to those in our community that are in need, as a consequence of sickness, accident or other crisis.  This Benevolent Fund also supports local initiatives which are of benefit to the local community.

Fourth Sunday of Easter – April 30, 2023 World Day of Prayer for Vocations

‘The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock; the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leads them out.’ (John 10: 3).  Just as the sheep know the voice of the Shepherd, we pray today – the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, that those whom are being called will recognise the voice of the Risen Lord in their hearts and will follow him to serve as a priest, deacon or religious.

  • Suggested Prayer of the Faithful for Vocations – Third Sunday of Easter – April 23, 2023Did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us?’  (Luke 24:32) The disciples on the road to Emmaus discerned a burning in their hearts after their encounter with the Risen Lord.  We pray for all who are discerning their vocational call to serve as a priest, deacon or religious that they may be guided by the Holy Spirit.

• The Galway County Ploughing Match – hosted by the Kilconnell Ploughing Association will be held on the lands of Father Paddy Mockler by his kind permission on Sunday 19th March 2023. The venue is on Stubble ground at Killian, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, Eircode H53 VF50. Loy competitors are welcome. On Saturday the 18th March 2023 at the same venue the Galway County Ploughing Association will hold a novice match, this competition is open to competitors between 16 and 35 years of age. Entrants of 16 years must have a tractor licence which must be presented on the day. This event is for those who have never ploughed competitively. All entries for both competitions to the County Secretary Bridget Higgins on 0872287108 and Assistant County Secretary Mairead Kelly on 0877776070 by Wednesday 15th March 2023. Ploughing will commence at 12 noon at both events.
• Shiven Rovers registration night – for the upcoming season will take place on Tuesday 14th March from 7pm to 9pm in the Clubhouse. Child being registered must also attend to sign the registration form. We would urge all to register on the night and before the leagues kick off to avoid any disappointment. Looking forward to a new season and wishing all the players and their respective teams the best of luck this year. Registration fees are as follows €40 for 1 child €80 for 2 children and €100 for 3 or more.

  • Ballygar Graveyard has undergone an extensive upgrade with further plans for footpaths to the new extension.  The works will include tarmacadam access to the extended area.
