  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Meditate in Pink is an online Meditation course for National Breast Cancer Research.  Join Meditate in Pink for €25 and get 5 guided 30-minute mediations with Mary Lally, founder of 5 Elements Wellness, every Tuesday at 8pm in October.  100% of all monies raised goes to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.   • Coláiste Mhuire on RTE1 Mass – Sunday 8th October – Coláiste Mhuire has been invited to participate in the RTE1 mass at 11 a.m. on Sunday, 8th October. Bishop Kevin Doran will celebrate the mass with contributions from the Coláiste Mhuire Choir and members of the school community.  
  • Adult Healthcare Support and Special Needs Assistant Course – Coláiste Mhuire Ballygar currently a Carers Course that includes Special Needs Assisting.  The carers course is QQI Certified Level 5 and the SNA course is Level 6.   • Ballygar Truckin’ is Celebrating 10 Years and following on from the huge support we received for last year’s event, raising €30,000 for BNT Le Chéile and Friends of Oncology, Ballinasloe, we are delighted that this year’s fun filled event has been extended to 3 Days over the October Bank Holiday Weekend, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th October, in Ballygar.We will be hosting a Truck & Tractor Run, Monster Auction, Vintage Display, with Bingo Loco, Declan Nerney, and Paul Kelly all live in the Mattie McDonagh Centre and there will be many more family fun activities happening throughout the weekend. This year, we have chosen to fundraise for: BNT Le Chéile and Roscommon Hospice. It is Ballygar Truckin’s aim to help raise vital funds to help both causes to continue the real and necessary care and support they provide to members of our community.If you require any further information relating to this event and ways to donate, please see our Social Media pages or contact any member of the committee.
  • Fit Up Theatre Festival for Newbridge Hall – Resurrecting the tradition of the touring ‘Fit Up’ plays of the 50’s, Three Rings Theatre group are bringing 3 weeks of professional Theatre to rural communities.  Newbridge Hall will host three plays over 3 weeks starting on Wednesday Sept 27th at 8pm with a comedy called ‘The Parish’ with actors Michael Ryan and Sean Kellegher.  Week 2, Wed, Oct 4th sees ‘The Gombeen’ featuring Niamh Mc Grath and week 3 on Wed Oct 11th called ‘Wake’ performed by Irene Kellegher.  Further information and booking at 087 9677732 / 087 2372820.

  • Youth Pilgrimages – Throughout the month of August, young people from our diocese will be on pilgrimage with Bishop Kevin to World Youth Day in Lisbon (31st July – 8th August) and Lourdes (23rd – 28th August). Please keep them and all who travel with them in your prayers.
  • Knock Pilgrimage – The Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine takes place on Sunday 20th August with Anointing of the Sick at 2.30pm and Mass at 3.00pm in the Basilica.
  • Ballygar Cemetery – Ballygar Cemetery – Mass will be celebrated in Ballygar Cemetery on Sunday 13th August at 10.30am, weather permitting. A collection will be taken up at the weekend masses for the upkeep of the Cemetery. Special Cemetery offering envelopes will also be available in the Church porch.  Your support would be greatly appreciated. 
  • BALLINAMORE BRIDGE HERITAGE GROUP – are holding a fundraising draw on 25th August 2023 in Hughes Bar, Ballinamore Bridge.  This is to erect a memorial for 4 boys who tragically drown in the river Shiven in 1904.  Tickets available in Hughes Bar and usual local outlets.  All support greatly appreciated. Lots of prizes on the night.
  • Ballygar Tidy Towns – Tea Room, Cake Sale and Information stall at the Fair Day Monday 7th August from 10am.  We would appreciate any home baking which can be dropped to the Courthouse on Sunday 8pm to 10pm or Monday morning from 9.30am onwards.  Your support would be appreciated. 
  • Tús Work Initiative – The Tús programme, for those 12 months or more unemployed, is now taking-on participants for community work placements within the locality.   • Coláiste Mhuire, Ballygar – 75th Anniversary Mass: This will take place on Fri. 8th Sept. 2023 at 11.30a.m. in St Mary’s Church, Ballygar.   • ELPHIN DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES – ASSISTED PILGRIM SECTION – The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 23rd August 2023 to the 28th August, 2023 inclusive, under the leadership of Bishop Kevin Doran. Pilgrimage Highlights includes Mass at the Grotto, Torchlight and Blessed Sacrament Processions, Anointing of the Sick, Water Ceremony.  Flights ex Knock Airport.  The Pilgrimage includes the Assisted Pilgrim Section.  Those who travel as part of the Assisted Pilgrim Section will stay in Accueil Notre Dame, which is situated near the Grotto and Sanctuary area.  They will be cared for by the Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage Care Team whilst in Lourdes.  Application forms for the Assisted Pilgrim Section and full details are available from Very Rev.   • The Annual Walk of Remembrance to reflect on the victims of An Gorta Mór will take place on Sunday May 21st starting in The Square Mountbellew at 6:30 pm and ending at the site of the Workhouse (Colaiste an Chreagain).   All are invited to take part in the walk to remember family and neighbours who suffered during those dark times.  This year we will have special guests from Australia whose ancestors were evicted in 1846 from their homes in Ballinlass.
