Ballygar Carnival Fair Day - Information for Traders
The 80th Annual Ballygar Carnival
August 1st - 6th 2024
Ballygar Carnival Fair Day takes place Bank Holiday Monday, August 5th. Applications are now open for traders and stalls. Find out how to register below!
The Ballygar Carnival Fair Day & Indoor Market continues Ballygar’s history as a market town. Our Fair Day is one of the carnival’s oldest traditions and brings entertainment for all ages. It is traditionally kept by many as a day for catching up with friends and family from home and those visiting us from abroad.
When is it?
The Ballygar Carnival Fair Day always takes place on the August Bank Holiday Monday each year. It typically runs from early morning (approx. 9 AM) to mid-afternoon (approx. 4 PM).
Ballygar Carnival asks that traders do not attend outside of the designated Fair Day as spaces are required for other events and parking.
How can I attend?
There are 2 separate trading areas; street trading along Main St. and indoor space at the Mattie McDonagh Centre. The requirements to attend differ depending on which area you wish to trade in.
Street Trading
Main Street, Ballygar is a public area and as such is ultimately controlled by Galway County Council.
Businesses that are not already covered for this type of trading must obtain a Casual Trading License from Galway County Council which permits selling on the street.
You must have your permit to trade on the day. Representatives from Galway County Council will be present and will not hesitate to close any stall which fails to produce a valid permit.
Apply directly to Galway County Council for a permit and display it on your stand on the day. Ballygar Carnival will be happy to assist with this process if required, please contact us via email ballygarcarnival@ballygar.ie or on our Facebook page.
Permit Exemptions:
Stalls which are not selling any food or wares (e.g. art display, buskers, etc.) do not require a trader’s permit. There are also a limited number of spaces along Main Street which are on private property and are therefore not controlled by the County Council. These spaces must be reserved, please contact us to find out more.
Indoor Trading
Trading space within the Mattie McDonagh Centre is controlled by Ballygar Carnival and therefore does not require a council permit.
As this area is indoors it is only suited to smaller stalls. Food vans etc. cannot be accommodated in this area. Ballygar Carnival Committee reserves the right to refuse and/or remove any stall from this area that is deemed unsuitable.
A fee of €10 per stall is applicable on the day. Please note that spaces are limited so please register your interest early to avoid disappointment.
Tables and chairs are available on request if you are unable to bring your own.
