- Ballygar Heritage Week – A Tour of Ecclesiastical Sites in East Galway. Historians Anne Carey (née Connolly) and Dr Christy Cunniffe will lead a tour of some of East Galway’s most important ecclesiastical sites. On the day we will visit the Kilconnell Franciscan Friary, Clontuskert Augustinian Priory and Clonfert Cathedral. The meeting place is outside the church in Ballygar at 2pm on Sunday, August 23rd. Anyone interested in coming please contact Tomás Kenny on 0863683778 to book a place.
- Jubilee of Marriages – Couples celebrating their Silver, Ruby, Golden, Diamond, Platinum or other wedding anniversaries are invited to attend one of two Jubilee Masses, along with their families and friends on either Sunday 4th October at 2.30pm in Ballaghaderreen Cathedral or Sunday 11th October at 2.30pm in Kiltoom Church. Bishop Kevin will celebrate both Masses. Light refreshments will be served afterwards for all in attendance. As each couple celebrating an Anniversary will receive a certificate from Bishop Kevin, they are asked to register their details at www.achonryelphin.ie

- Elphin Diocesan Lourdes Assisted Pilgrim Fund would like to thank all who contributed to their recent church gate collection. Funds collected as follows:
Ballygar €500.65, Newbridge €285.60, Tohergar €140.00, Total: € 926.25. Also a special thanks to all who assisted in collections.
- Mountbellew Agriculture Show will be held on Saturday 22nd August 2026 at the Mountbellew Agriculture College/ATU Grounds. Entries on-line. www.mountbellewagrishow.ie . - Killyan Graveyard Mass – Killyan Graveyard Committee would like to sincerely thank all who turned out in huge numbers for our annual Graveyard Mass on Sunday. Thanks to Fr. Louis, Fr. Douglas and Fr. Michael for con-celebrating Mass. Thanks to Sarah Crehan for her beautiful music, to our servers Sarah, Eva and Jessica, the Eucharistic Ministers, our zoom hosts, Caragh and Derek, and to everyone involved in the liturgy. Thanks to all our collectors and to those who helped with parking. We are very grateful to Tom Smith for generously providing the marquee. Thanks to photographer Peter Daly. A special thanks to everyone who worked hard in the weeks leading up to the Mass to ensure that the Graveyards were looking their best. The bucket collection for the upkeep of the Graveyard amounted to €2344 which paid for the sound system for the day and will help towards the maintenance of the Graveyards during the year. The basket collection for the church totalled €2,140.00.Thanks to everyone for their generosity. May all our loved ones rest in peace.
- The Courthouse Cafe celebrated its First Anniversary on the 18th August. The café is run by Ballygar Tidy Towns, Community Volunteers and Mountbellew District Development Community Employment Scheme. We wish to thank everyone who have contributed to its success especially our dedicated workers, the bakers, our loyal customers and the transition year students of Colaiste Mhuire. Thanks to those who helped with sponsorship and advice when we started this venture. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm.
- Ballygar Tidy Towns …the Committee of Ballygar Tidy Towns would like to thank everyone who supported our Carnival Fair Day Information Stall, cake sale and tea room. Thank you to the wonderful local bakers who generously donated to the cake sale. A special thank you to the reliable and hardworking volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.
- Ballygar & Districts Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) – Introduction to the Energy Master Plan for Ballygar and Districts takes place in The Mattie McDonagh Centre on Thursday 27th August at 8pm. This is a national initiative that supports communities to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. Marcus MacDonncha, Energy Consultant will provide technical guidance, mentoring and access to funding to help develop an Energy Master Plan. Dr Orla NicSuibhne, SEC Mentor will provide information on insulation upgrades, solar panels and heat pumps.
